Light the Night Tally

Just a quick update for everybody on our Light the Night Walk that took place last week. We had a lot of donations come in that night. And thanks to all of our wonderful supporters, I have a new funds raised amount to report. Lisa Beam from the Leukemia and Lymphoma society called me this afternoon to report that we have raised $39,500 for them!!! I am in complete awe of that. When this first started, Lisa sent me an email telling me that most "first-year" teams set their goal at $1000. I was feeling a little crazy, so when I set up our webpage I set the Ally's Army goal at $3500. After a couple of days, Jerad took a look at the page and thought $3500 was too low and unacceptable. He suggested I raise it to $10,000. I told him that I would, but that I thought that was a crazy high amount and I didn't want to fall short of our goal. (can you tell I hate losing?) So how do I feel today? The Army has come together again, in honor of my Ally, and raised $40k. We still have checks coming in to tell you the truth. Still have people calling to tell me about fundraisers they are doing. Amazing. Heartwarming. Actually unbelievable.

And Lisa also told me that the reporter from the Dayton Daily News called her to get some information for a news article that he is writing on Ally's Army and our efforts. He wanted to know where we fell nationally in $$$ raised. It is not yet determined, because some walks are still taking place. But I think we will be HIGH. Look for the article in your newspaper sometime over the next couple of days. I will surely post it here too.

Thanks to everyone for the comments on sickness, etc. I am trying to maintain a good balance of life for my daughter, but yet protection from germs. Both of which are important to her healing and beating this disease. Again, I never know...every day I wake up and wonder if my girl will go to school that day. Nothing is ever a given for us. Nothing is ever taken for granted.

Thank you to my kind neighbor Jill who brought us some yummy soup, bread, and dessert for dinner. It was great to have a break from cooking again.

We appreciate your prayers and support so much.

  1. I just read this quote on Ali Edwards' blog and it hit home for me. I am sure it will hit home for you. Take each day as it comes and be thankful for whatever "normal" is for you these days.

Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart. Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow. Let me hold you while I may, for it may not always be so. One day I shall dig my nails into the earth, or bury my face in the pillow, or stretch myself taut, or raise my hands to the sky and want, more than all the world, your return. - Mary Jean Iron
