Special Wish Delivery

Ally's Special Wish was delivered to our house!!! A whole packet filled with reservations/information/travellers cheques, etc. Everything is perfectly mapped out for us and ultra organized thanks to Stephanie from Special Wish. She went above and beyond the "wish day" activities and had information on all other things in there. Everything from the beaches at Santa Monica pier (with a cool ferris wheel on the beach) to Venice Beach to Universal City where you can go to a store featured on the Food Network and make your own candy. We have Disneyland and Legoland waiting for us too. She brought Ally a Special Wish bear, which has pretty much been attached to her hip since they left and will be making the trip with us now.

As far as her actual wish day, we are going to see the taping of the show The Wizards of Waverly Place. There are more surprises for that day too, but I am not telling Ally yet! I want it to be a surprise.

It was through tears that I even attempted to speak during most of the wish delivery. When you spend countless days laying in the hospital, the wish seems just like a tiny little beacon of light to hold onto. I never even knew if it would happen, but I was certain it was something that I could never have arranged on my own. I can try to give my daughter a lot of things, but this was not one of them. So I am so grateful that there is an organization out there that tries to make a happy spot in these kids lives. It takes a ton of work to get through all of the roadblocks that people put up in front of celebrities to try to protect them. I think it is great that the kids actually get to choose...not the parents. Some kids wish for trips, others choose shopping sprees, a few that I know have chosen to have their rooms madeover. Later that night Stephanie was delivering another wish: a boy also battling cancer, but wanted to meet George Bush. One of the coolest that they have ever done, and was mentioned to me by several people, was a boy that wanted to meet Paula Deen from the Food Network. Amazingly, I knew that boy long before I was involved with Special Wish, our friend Aaron Whitmer who lost his battle to brain cancer.

Here is Stephanie explaining the wish to Ally:

Carly was quite excited too and was running around the room like a maniac.
I love this picture of Ally because I feel like I can see the excitement in Ally's eyes. She is not the girl who will jump up and down and run around the house. That is just not her. But the excitement is just as much there for her. She is thrilled and counting down the minutes. She could hardly get to sleep that night. Here are the kids with Stephanie and a Special Wish board member who wanted to ride along, Bonnie.
Thank you so much Special Wish. Wishes really can come true.
